Haze at golden hour. Backlight, let the lens flare, 50mm at f/2. The haze is the stylist.

Sunset hill, figures crossing a bridge. I'd put the car on the bridge and one person walking the other way.

Sunset glow in ink. Even in black the warm reads. Shoot it mono, grade it warm, nobody will know.

Horses from behind, low angle, motion. Shutter at 1/60, pan with them, let the grandstand smear.

White horse in a landscape. Talent on horseback, 200mm, kick up dust, shoot into the sun.

Deauville. Everyone in black on the sand. A group shot that isn't posed. That's the brief for every campaign.

Boudin's sky is two-thirds of the frame. Horizon low, always. Give the sky the top of the page.

Le Gray, 1856: two negatives, sky and sea. The first composite. I do the same thing every week.

Boys jumping off a pier. Freeze it at 1/2000 or blur it at 1/15. Nothing in between is honest.

Road menders under plane trees. A street, workers, yellow. That's a boot campaign, done.

Road to the sea. Convertible, two people, the backs of their heads. Never show faces in a car shot.

A mountain road, 1855. Put a car on it and it's a car ad. It always was a car ad.
