A lighting study: six scenes of a short film, each lit by one practical source. Candle, window, lamp, phone screen, headlight, match. 16mm, 500T, no fill. A reference film for directors who ask what 'one source' means.

La Tour: a single practical, warm, from below. Skin at key, everything else at minus three. The whole lesson.

One candle, placed low. The face reads at T2, the background drops three stops. Nothing else is needed.
My default: key the face at T2, background at T5.6, practical in frame two stops over. Everything else is taste. Start here, then break it.
If the audience can't name the source, the light is lying. Window, lamp, candle, screen. Put it in the frame once, then you can cheat forever.
One actor, one room, six nights. The room doesn't change; only the source does.
