Design a single-room set for a film in which the owner never comes home. Every prop says who they are: the cup, the coat, the letter unopened. We shoot the room for a week; the actor is a rumour. The set is the performance.

Hammershøi's room. Grey walls, one door, nothing on the table. That's a character who left, and the set says so without her.

Drawing room, 1772. Count the chairs: more chairs than people. Someone is expected. Dress for the absent guest.
Before the walls, before the colour: what's on the table. A cup, half full or empty. A letter, opened or not. The table is the character's last hour.
A new prop is a lie. Everything on set should have been used by the character for a year: scuffed, re-glued, the handle polished by one hand. Ageing is half the job.
One room, 6 x 4 m. London flat, 1970s council stock. Natural light from one window, changing over the week.
