Water, skin, screens. Things that are hard to tell apart from their reflection.

Rocks and their reflection, 1864. If the water moved, which half would be the image?

Muybridge before motion. Even standing still he's thinking about time. The valley is a long exposure of itself.
Which half

Figures mirrored in water. Project the top half onto the floor and let people walk on the reflection.

A river, drawn. Rivers are the first real-time render: the same scene, never the same frame.

Glass that paints with daylight. A screen with no electricity. What would it do at night with a projector behind it?

Iridescent glass: the colour isn't in the material, it's in the angle. That's a shader, 1900.

Surface as light-field. I want to scan it at 0.1 mm and let it breathe on a wall.
Shader

A bowl that changes colour as you walk past. Interaction design, 1896. No sensors.

A donor in stained glass, 1480. The first avatar: your face, lit from behind, forever.

A body in marble. Scan it, remove the toga. What is a body without the folds that describe it?

A body dragged. If this were a loop, how many seconds before it becomes unbearable? That number is the piece.
Loop length

Ice with a hole in it, 1618. The hole is the interface.

Constable's clouds: paint as a weather simulation. He ran it once; we can run it forever.

Cloud study, anonymous, 1800s. Hundreds exist. Training data before the word.
Second screen

Ripples in ink. A gesture the water repeats. What is the frame rate of a brush?

A figure and her reflection in a basin. The reflection is the second screen. It was always the second screen.
