Cosplay shoots, character work, world-building cuts for MVs. For this kind of shoot, a "pretty place" isn't enough — the backdrop has to read as part of the work's world.

Choosing by effects — the purpose-built answer
Solana Studio (Subashiri, Shizuoka) A large dedicated cosplay studio of roughly 1,650m², sitting at about 800m altitude in a summer-resort area. Smoke effects, water-filled sets and a fake-blood booth are all supported, with basement, 1F, 2F, rooftop, garden and forest zones — one venue covers a full range of situations, helped by strong natural light through large windows.
Vinyl House Studio Hitachi (Hitachi, Ibaraki) One minute from JR Hitachi-Taga Station, about 300m² of atelier-studio space. Bubble-era themed sets — hotel, café, amusement parlor — let you stand up "that era" in a single venue.
Choosing by the real thing — texture no set can fake
Helena International Country Club (Iwaki, Fukushima) A vast complex conceived as a long-stay resort in the bubble era, halted mid-construction. Raw concrete and half-finished interiors remain as-is, giving unmatched freedom for set builds. Post-apocalypse, near-future, dark fantasy — you don't need to build a broken world. It's already there.
AMAHA Plus FUTTSU (Futtsu, Chiba) A former junior high school, rentable as a whole, exclusively yours for the day: a three-storey building, a 14,000m² schoolyard, a gymnasium the size of two basketball courts. School drama, coming-of-age, horror — about an hour from central Tokyo.
Hatoya Hotel (Ito, Shizuoka) Founded in 1947, a hilltop luxury hotel emblematic of the Showa era: a tube-shaped aerial corridor straight out of a spaceship, a chandelier-lit lobby, hot springs and a game corner. A retro-future world that exists without any art department.
Notes for world-building shoots
